Okay, I did it! I created a [info]dwnano  Community. It still needs to be personalized more but it will do for now. I've set it up and made a first post so if you're doing NaNo please feel free to head over and check it out. Also, please spread the word so that others know about it.

It's Official, I'm NUTS

  • Oct. 31st, 2009 at 12:09 AM
OMG: Onoz
So yesterday (or rather really really really early Friday morning) I discovered that you can enter NaNo Wrimo with a work in Progress as a rebel. Some Rebels will still validate, others won't. So I considered this and decided what the heck, I'm working hard on two fics right now anyway, might as well join the fun and make it somewhat official. So I did it. I joined. I will start my NaNo Tally on November 1st and not count anything written before hand. Which means, the big fic that I have in progress right now, is going to get bigger.

This particualar fic is basically [info]wiggiemomsi 's auction fic from me. It was a story I've been meaning to tell almost since I finished watching the show and it's inspired by Shakespeare's Sonnet "O Mistress Mine." It's a pot Journey's End fic so it really applies. Anyway, it is probably the most complicated and most rewarding story I've ever written and it's been really exciting for me to write. So my main NaNo goal is to finish that story.

I also have to finish my Original story for the [info]project4editrx . It's reached the point where it could become a novel so my amazing beta [info]cookie2697  and I are meeting tomorrow to deliberate over what the best plan of attack is. Do I edit out some plot threads? Shelve it and let it be a full novel at a later date and quickly try to write something else? Or keep going and try to finish it in under the 15 000 words? Tough choices.

I'll keep the word meter in my side bar going throughout NaNo so in addition to my NaNo word count, you'll be able to see my progress on the story as a whole and on the original story.

In addition to this, I've entered my grade 7/8 class into the youth version of Nano. They're excited to be starting a novel and many of them are trying to write 10,000 words which I think is pretty impressive. They'll write for 30 minutes every day in November, and when they write, I will too, so I'll get to do a lot of writing. YAY. Collectively, my class goal is 115, 058 words. That's for 13 students. They also want to try and collectively beat MY Word count. I'm pretty sure this is a contest I'm doomed to lose, but if it motivates them then I'm all for it.

Anyway, with all this going on, and with report cards coming up, (not to mention the I'll be Homemade for Christmas [info]supportstacie  auction) it's going to be quite a while (read December) before I have another fic to post. But, once this is done, there will be a massive story that I'll be able to start posting chapter by chapter so I promise you I'll more than make up for the hiatus.

If you're one of my Gilmore Girls readers, I have more in the works for you too, including a chance to weigh in on what missing scenes from Secret Desires and Nameless Fears, or Love, Marriage and Moving Vans you might want to see a one shot of while you wait for the third installment of "Good Things Come in Threes".

PS - I know there's a whole lot of us DW writers doing NaNo this month, perhaps it's time for a DW NaNo community for anyone in DW writing either a fanfic or an Original story for NaNo Wrimo? I'd be willing to put such a community together if there's interest and if there's at least one other person willing to help mod it.

Next Support Stacie Auction Coming Soon

DW: Jack Ten Fangirls

The[info]supportstacie  "I'll Be Homemade For Christmas" auction, which takes place November 14th and 15th is now accepting registrations. Details are up HERE on the Support Stacie website.

So get your creative brains on and start thinking of all the things you can auction off. I'm planning to enter some hand made jewelery, some bookmarks, some card sets, and if I get my act together, maybe something knitted. I was also thinking about entering a personalized story, but with the way my writing committments are at the moment I'm thinking I'll have to let that idea go for now and maybe do some baking instead.

Anyway, here are some other ideas of how you can use your talents in this auction:
  • Fan art (artist commissions)
  • Fan videos
  • Fan memorabilia
  • LJ tech support (help someone set up their layout)
  • Other tech support (donate a certain amount of software or html help)
  • Sewing
  • Scrapbooking
  • Photography (E.g., Prints of existing art or offers to take pictures for bidders who live near the photographer)
  • Quilting
  • Cross-Stitching
  • Baking
  • Candles
  • Decorative items
  • Choose-your-own adventure stories (E.g., "Please write a story in which my daughter visits Hogwarts.")
  • Beta services
  • Diet or nutritional help
  • Menu planning
  • Accounting help
  • ...and much more!

If you've got an idea for something but you're not sure if it would count, ple email SupportStacieAuctions@gmail.com or leave a message here.  The Powers That Be are trying to be quite liberal in their interpretation of what qualifies for the auction.

Please spread the word!

My Belated Ficaversary

  • Oct. 14th, 2009 at 1:11 AM
Thank You: Doctor
I realized the other day that my one year "Fic-a-versary" has passed.

On October 8th, 2008, I posted the opening chapter of my first ever fanfic over on Black, White and Read. I had tried to submit it a few days before but was rejected due to my dialog tags, which at the time, were a mess. Enter [info]jewelsverne who graciously read my story, gave me amazing feedback and held my hand as I learned to master the comma. (Okay, I admit, I still don't have it down, but believe me, I'm a LOT better than I was. Ask Jewels, she's seen it all!)

Since then, I've written (and completed) 10 more stories within the Gilmore Girls fandom. Combined, that's a whopping total of 153968 words and there's more to come. I have at least 2 more sequels to "Secret Desires and Nameless Fears" planned, not to mention some other stories that are floating through my brain. My ideas list is rather long.

Then, in April, [info]gioiamia introduced me to Doctor Who. At first I was adament that even though I enjoyed the show I would never read or write fanfiction for it. And then came Doomsday and all hell broke loose in my brain. I wrote my first fic after seeing "Partners in Crime" and before I'd even finished watching the series, though I didn't post it until I'd seen the rest of S4. (Didn't want to get spoiled).

So far I've managed to post and complete 10 stories for Doctor Who. (I'm not counting ficlets or drabbles since those aren't posted on Teaspoon. LOL). I'm less prolific in DW for some reason, but combined that's a total of 20977 words. Of course, that's NOT counting my recent collaboration with [info]doctorsdiva  which was over 13,000 words.

So I'm a year in to this fandom craziness and loving every moment. And there's no sign of stopping. Currently I have about Five works in progress:

[info]supportstacie Doctor Who Fic: Status - in progress, current word count: 3786 words. And I'm only halfway through my planned first chapter.

[info]supportstacie  Gilmore Girls Fic: Status - in development, current word count? 0 (I'll be starting it this week)

Original Fic for [info]project4editrx : Status - 214/5000 words

Plus, I have a few other projects in the works. Yikes. Yup. It's busy. But I'm loving every moment of it.

I will forever be grateful for the day I decided to take that first leap and post. It's given me more confidence in my abilities, got me through some incredibly tough times, allowed me to help some amazing people, and brought me some of the most amazing friends a girl could ever dream of. So thank you fandom. I'm happy to be a part of you! :)

To all the Doctor Who fans on my Friends list:

Help!

I'm trying to work out some details for a fic that I'm writing and there are few things that are cropping up that I'm not sure of. I figure one of you might know more than me and might be able to help.
Behind the cut for people who haven't seen the whole series yet )

Those are the big questions I have for now, I very well might have more later. Thanks in advance to anyone who is able to help sort this out.

O Mistress Mine/Journey's End Redux

DW: I believe in her
I was going through an old email today looking for some brainstorming on a fic and I came across an analysis I did of the Shakespeare Sonet "O Mistress Mine" throughout my first viewing of the series last spring.

It's particularly fascinating to me because I analyzed it twice. Once before I saw any of Season 4, and once after I'd seen all of the episodes (including the Next Doctor and Planet of the Dead).

Two Great Projects.

  • Sep. 28th, 2009 at 8:52 PM
DW: I believe in her
So, I've just discovered the existence of two great projects/fundraisers that are going on. They've both originated within the Doctor Who fandom but they're open to anyone willing to participate and I was thinking that quite a few of you on my flist might be interested in participating in one, or both of these.

Both projects have been created with the intention of raising money for [info]editrx  and her husband [info]baron_elric who are both facing medical and financial challenges at the moment. Specifics can be found here.

The first project is a cookbook. Details can be found on [info]azirona 's journal here, but essentially they are looking for recipe submissions, recipe testers and of course, people to buy the completed cookbook. Yum! :)

The second project is going to be a collection of ORIGINAL short stories (5000 words+)  that will be published, and sold. Not every story submitted will be published, but it would be a good opportunity (and it's for a great cause). Anyone can submit a story, you don't have to be part of the DW community. Interested people should check out this post by [info]ladychi  for further details. (They're also looking for some artists and other talented individuals to help with different aspects of the project)

I'm planning to participate in BOTH so I'd better get cracking. Lots to do between this and my [info]supportstacie  stories :)

DW/GG Crossover: Planet of the Odd

  • Sep. 24th, 2009 at 6:06 PM
DW: Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey
Title: Planet of the Odd (1/1)
Author: [info]lorelaisquared
Characters: Rose, Ten, Jack, Lorelai, Luke, Rory, Townies
Rated: PG
Words: 3,670
Summary: A Doctor Who/Gilmore Girls Crossover in which the TARDIS lands in the centre of Stars Hollow, inciting all sorts of craziness!
Authors' Notes: The setting for this is Season 1 of Gilmore Girls and Season 2 Doctor Who. The inclusion of Jack makes it slightly AU. I've tried to write this so that if you don't know one of the shows, you'll still be able to follow along.

This was written at the request of the fabulous [info]wiggiemomsi in thanks for being so wonderful and supportive during the April [info]supportstacie author auction. Since she just won me (twice!) in the September auction, this will be the first of many fics written for her by me! :)

Thank you to both of my fabulous beta's, [info]meremoon and [info]jewelsverne. You both made this fic so much better than it was before! Thank you for helping me balance the American vs British speak that was required to pull this off. Extra thanks to [info]jewelsverne for assistance with the title. Stars Hollow really is the Planet of the Odd!

Support Stacie Wrap Up

  • Sep. 21st, 2009 at 10:52 PM
DW: Doctor in the Stars
I've been meaning to post all week about the [info]supportstacie  auction and haven't managed to get around to it until now.

First of all, if you haven't seen the current subtotal, go check it out now. Those are some AMAZING numbers. I am just in awe of the amazing generosity and kindness I've seen in this auction, especially within both of my fandoms. The GG and DW fans are superstars in my eyes. You're all incredible. *giant group hug*

I'm well and truly owned by the lovely and amazing [info]wiggiemomsi. She managed to win both my Doctor Who and Gilmore Girls Auctions, plus all 3 of my nightly special offer on my Gilmore Girls auction so she'll be keeping me super busy in the next little while. Especially with the prompt she picked for the DW story. It's going to be a blast to write, that's for sure! :) (Yes,  I'm a tease, you'll just have to wait until it's posted to find out what I mean by that! :))

I think I've managed to post all drabbles that I owed except for [info]sassylion 's which I'm posting now! :) If I owe you one and I somehow missed you, please let me know.

It ended up being a little more than a double drabble. (250 words exactly). Consider it compensation for me not posting this within 24 hours like I had promised.

 Hectic
